Photography has recently become a hobby, as has the editing that can add so much to a picture. Mark was kind enough to buy me a DSLR camera for my birthday this year, so I've been having a blast playing! There are occasional contests that I participate in just for fun, and I need some place to post my entries, so here they are. Hope you guys get a kick out of watching me learn!

I Heart Faces - Fix-It Friday, August 27, 2010

It's Fix-It Friday over at I Heart Faces, where we are given a photo to practice editing.  Here is my attempt at improving it.

The original (love the shot - has sort of an ethereal feel to me):

8-27-10 Original

After my edits:

8-27-10 3

I did my edits in PS Elements 8, and these were the steps I took:

1. Cropped it just a little.
2. Did a slight levels and brightness/contrast bump (I only applied the levels adjustment layer to the darker parts of her skin).
3. Ran Coffee Shop's S-Curve action with an opacity of 25%.
4. Used the burn tool, and burned the greenery's midtones with a brush opacity of 20%.
5. Ran Coffee Shop's Vintage Honey action. Layer opacity as follows: Color Fade - 40%, Color Fill 1 - 50%, Color Fill 2 - 15%, Color Fill 3 - 10%, Color Fill 4 - 25%
6. Ran Johnna Riddell's 1970's Summer at 25% opacity.
7. Ran Coffee Shop's S-Curve action one more time for a little extra pop with an opacity of 20%.

Ta Daaa!

Again, all the actions I used were freebies. The ones used in this edit are either from Rita at the Coffeeshop, or Johnna Riddell. Both offer tons of cool actions for free, which I am eternally grateful for!! If you haven't already, check out their websites:
